Community Guidelines

Welcome to Comic Booked! — the comic book professional’s private social media platform with no AI, ads or algorithm.

Before anything else, know this — All are welcome, but when you are on this site, you are a guest of the Black community, the Indigenous community and the many other communities of color, as well as the LGBTQIA+ and disabled communities. If you are not comfortable with that, leave this site.

If you decide to join and then you cause any disturbances or harass any members or staff, you will be permanently banned from this site.

Our mission is to foster a vibrant and evolving community that respects individual preferences and adapts to the changing needs of our members. These guidelines define how the services we provide may be used.

We drafted these guidelines with the intention to carry forward as our community and product evolve. They are to:

1. Provide safety and comfort: By providing a safe, inclusive space to connect with your peers and colleagues in a casual social setting without worrying about audience interaction or trolling, we aim to reduce the amount of stress and anxiety that many people struggle with from having an online profile. Through insulated and private profile sections and member controlled public areas for fan interaction, we want to empower you to craft your own professional digital experience.
2. Create stronger connections: With an organic infrastructure between creators, retailers, publishers and event organizers we hope to make the business of comic books a more efficient, prosperous and lucrative career and strengthen the industry as a whole.
3. Cultivate a welcoming environment: We want to create a safe and friendly space where users feel welcomed, supported, and enjoy participating.
4. Evolve with feedback: As Comic Booked! grows and evolves, our guidelines and standards will evolve as well. We will regularly review and update these guidelines in response to feedback from our users, emerging trends, and changing circumstances. We strive to maintain transparency about any changes to our policies.

To meet the collective goals of our community, it’s important that all members feel safe and supported. To help everyone have the best possible experience, please take a look at our community guidelines.

Community Guidelines:

Our community guidelines are designed to promote a safe and enjoyable experience. To achieve this goal, we moderate the content on Comic Booked! using our discretion.

These rules will evolve over time as we continually work to cultivate a healthy and thriving community.

If you come across a user, message, or service that appears to break these guidelines, please report it to us via our feedback form.

• Don’t use Comic Booked! to break the law or cause harm to others. For example, do not:
  • Praise or promote material from hate groups or proscribed terror groups
  • Distribute child sexual abuse material, or any content portraying minors in a sexually explicit context
  • Engage in human trafficking or sexual exploitation, including any attempt to distribute, participate or normalize child sexual abuse
  • Engage in predatory or inappropriate interactions or exchanges between minors and adults, online or offline. Do not support or normalize pedophilia or the sexual exploitation of minors.
  • Trade in illegal goods or substances
  • Steal or distribute others’ private personal information without their permission
  • Hack or access systems that you aren’t authorized to access
  • Scam or cheat others for financial gain
  • Spam, phish, or otherwise use technical means to disrupt the experience of others on Comic Booked!. This includes operating multiple accounts that interact similarly.
  • Infringe other’s copyrights, trademarks and/or other intellectual property
  • Do not engage in voter suppression or share misleading content about election processes. Do not encourage or glorify the intimidation of election participants or real-world disruption of the election processes.
  • Do not share misleading content falsely attributed to candidates in elections.
  • Do not circumvent or evade moderation actions, for example by creating new accounts or repurposing an existing account to replace a banned account, or reposting content that has been removed as part of a moderation enforcement.
• Treat others with respect. For example, no:
  • Harassment or abuse directed at a specific person or group, including but not limited to, sexual harassment and gender identity-based harassment
  • Promoting hate or extremist conduct that targets people or groups based on their race, gender, religion, ethnicity, nationality, disability, or sexual orientation
  • Threats of violence or physical harm, or content that encourages, promotes, or glorifies violence against people, groups, or animals
  • Encouraging self-harm or suicide
  • Depictions of excessive violence, gore, torture, dismemberment, or non-consensual sexual activity
  • Misleading impersonation of other individuals, organizations, or entities
• Follow the standards of the community group or forum you are visiting: Group and forum admins may establish community guidelines for their own groups and forums. Your failure to follow those rules may result in your being restricted from using those groups.
• AI content and promotion of AI content is not permitted within this community. If your work is produced through the use of AI you will be removed and banned from the ComicBooked! community.

Reporting

We rely on the entire community (developers, creators, users, visitors) to enforce our community guidelines. The reporting system built into the site helps us detect violations of the Comic Booked! Community Guidelines.  All reports are kept confidential.

• User Violations of Comic Booked! Community Guidelines. You can report suspected violations of the Community Guidelines by reporting posts, accounts, or direct messages with the online reporting feature. We will review reports we receive against these Community Guidelines. Comic Booked! will decide when and how to enforce these Community Guidelines, and if we find a violation of the Guidelines will take enforcement action, which may include restricting a user’s ability to use Comic Booked!. If your report relies on or relates to conduct that happened outside of Comic Booked!, please provide links, context, or any relevant evidence in the details section of your report, so our moderation team can take these factors into consideration.
• Developer Violations of Comic Booked! Terms. To report a service that you believe is not complying with or enforcing the Comic Booked! Terms of Service or Privacy Policy, please email Comic Booked! at info@comicbooked.org
• App-Specific Guidelines. Developers of apps and operators of services may establish their own standards of conduct, separate from the Comic Booked! Community Guidelines. These services may temporarily or permanently ban violators from their apps or services. To report violations of a third-party app or service’s standard of conduct, please contact the developer or provider of the third-party app or service. Comic Booked! cannot enforce the standards of conduct of third-party apps or services.

We may notify you when we update these guidelines, and by using Comic Booked!, you are agreeing to check this page periodically to see changes in the guidelines, which we reserve the right to modify as we see fit. It is up to you to follow the spirit of them: make Comic Booked! a welcoming and empowering place for all users. Thanks for doing your part.

Consequences

In the event of someone violating these guidelines, we will take action to protect other members of the community. This might include a warning or in the event of extreme or repeat behavior, the member may be banned from the community.

Privacy Policy

ComicBooked! Network and its affiliates (“Company,” “we,” “our,” and/or “us”) value the privacy of individuals who use our social application, website, and related services (collectively, our “Services”).
This privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) explains how we collect, use, and share information from users of our Services (“Users,” “you,” and/or “your”). By using our Services, you agree to the collection, use, disclosure, and procedures this Privacy Policy describes. Beyond the Privacy Policy, your use of our Services is also subject to our User Agreement. 

Information We Collect

We may collect a variety of information from or about you or your devices from various sources, as described below.

Information You Provide to Us.

• Registration and Profile Information. When you sign up for an account, we may collect information such as your name, email address, username, and profile photo.
• User Content. We collect any information you choose to provide on our Services, such as posts, photos, videos, gifs, comments, messages, votes, and shares. This can include information in or about the content you provide (like metadata), such as the location of a photo or the date a file was created.
• Payment Information. If you make a purchase through our Services, your payment-related information, such as your credit and debit card or automated clearing house (ACH) information, is collected and stored by our third-party payment processor on our behalf. This includes payment information, such as your credit or debit card number and other card information; other account and authentication information; and billing, shipping and contact details.
• Communications. If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information about you. For example, if you contact us for customer support, we may receive your name, email address, phone number, the contents of any message or attachments you may send to us, and any other information you choose to provide.

Information We Collect When You Use Our Services.

• Location Information. When you use our Services, we infer your general location information, for example by using your internet protocol (IP) address.
• Device Information. We receive information about the device and software you use to access our Services, including IP address, device type, web browser type, operating system version, phone carrier and manufacturer, user agents, application installations, device identifiers, mobile advertising identifiers, and push notification tokens. We collect information from and about the computers, phones, connected TVs and other web-connected devices you use that integrate with our Products, and we combine this information across different devices you use. For example, we use information collected about your use of our Products on your phone to better personalize the content or features you see when you use our Products on another device, such as your laptop or tablet, or to measure whether you took an action in response to an article we showed you on your phone on a different device.
• Usage Information. To help us understand how you use our Services and to help us improve them, we automatically receive information about your interactions with our Services, such as the posts or other content you view, the searches you conduct, the people you follow, and the dates and times of your visits.
• Networks and connections. We collect information about the people, Pages, accounts, and groups you are connected to and how you interact with them across our Products, such as people you communicate with the most or groups you are part of.
• Things others do and information they provide about you. We also receive and analyze content, communications and information that other people provide when they use our Products. This can include information about you, such as when others share or comment on a photo of you, send a message to you, or upload, sync or import your contact information.
• Information from Cookies and Similar Technologies. We and our third-party partners, such as analytics partners, collect information using cookies, pixel tags, and similar technologies. Cookies are small text files containing a string of alphanumeric characters. We may use both session cookies and persistent cookies. A session cookie disappears after you close your browser. A persistent cookie remains after you close your browser and may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to our Services.
  
  Please review your web browser’s “Help” file to learn the proper way to modify your cookie settings. Please note that if you delete or choose not to accept cookies from our Services, you may not be able to utilize the features of our Services to their fullest potential.

How We Use the Information We Collect

We may use the information we collect:

• To provide, maintain, and improve our Services;
• To personalize your experience on our Services, such as by providing tailored content and recommendations;
• To understand and analyze how you use our Services and develop new products, services, features, and/or functionality;
• To communicate with you, provide you with updates and other information relating to our Services, provide information that you request, respond to comments and questions, and otherwise provide customer support;
• For marketing purposes, such as developing and providing promotional materials that may be relevant, valuable or otherwise of interest to you;
• To send you text messages and push notifications;
• To find and prevent fraud and respond to trust and safety issues;
• For compliance purposes, including enforcing our User Agreement or other legal rights, or as may be required by applicable laws and regulations or requested by any judicial process or governmental agency; and
• For other purposes for which we provide specific notice at the time the information is collected.

How We Share the Information We Collect

• Vendors and Service Providers. We do not share any information we receive with vendors and service providers retained in connection with the provision of our Services.
• User Content. Our Services are social services that allow you to find, enjoy, and share content. Your display name, username, profile photo, about me section, and contacts (i.e., followers and following) will always be viewable and/or searchable by other Users. The content you post to our Services will be displayed on our Services and viewable by other Users by default. This content is private by default, in the “Your Choices” section below, we describe the account settings and controls you can use to limit the sharing of certain information. We are not responsible for other Users’ use of available information, so you should carefully consider whether and what to post and how you identify yourself on our Services.
• Marketing. We do not rent, sell, or share information about you with nonaffiliated third parties for their direct marketing purposes unless we have your affirmative express consent.
• Analytics Partners. We use may use 3rd party analytics services to collect and process certain application analytics data.
• As Required By Law and Similar Disclosures. We may access, preserve, and disclose your information if we believe doing so is required or appropriate to: (a) comply with law enforcement requests and legal process, such as a court order or subpoena; (b) respond to your requests; or (c) protect your, our, or others’ rights, property, or safety. For the avoidance of doubt, the disclosure of your information may occur if you post any objectionable content on or through our Services.
• Merger, Sale, or Other Asset Transfers. We may transfer your information to service providers, advisors, potential transactional partners, or other third parties in connection with the consideration, negotiation, or completion of a corporate transaction in which we are acquired by or merged with another company or we sell, liquidate, or transfer all or a portion of our assets. The use of your information following any of these events will be governed by the provisions of this Privacy Policy in effect at the time the applicable information was collected.
• Consent. We may also disclose your information with your permission.

Your Choices

• Sharing Preferences. We provide you with settings to allow you to set your sharing preferences for content you post to our Services. Certain information, such as your username, may always be publicly available to others, and other information is made publicly available to others by default. To change whether certain information is publicly viewable, you can adjust the settings in your account.
• Marketing Communications. We send you marketing communications consistent with your choices. You can unsubscribe from our promotional emails by adjusting your account settings or via the link provided in the emails. Even if you opt-out of receiving promotional messages from us, you will continue to receive administrative messages from us.
• Notifications. You can opt-out of receiving notifications for posts, votes, shares, comments, and followers by adjusting your profile and/or operating system (i.e., iOS or Android) settings.

Third Parties

Our Services may contain links to other websites, products, or services that we do not own or operate. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. Please be aware that this Privacy Policy does not apply to your activities on these third party services or any information you disclose to these third parties. We encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing any information to them.

For example, any information you share with Google as a consequence of sharing or interacting with YouTube content on ComicBooked! Network is governed by Google’s privacy policy. Google now provides users some control over the collection of data by its users and API Clients like ComicBooked! Network. Exercising such control may require having a Google account, which itself may be a privacy concern for some of our users. Therefore, users are encouraged to use ComicBooked! Network’ own native video capabilities (or the capabilities of other platforms equally respectful of user privacy) if they wish to avoid sharing data with Google.

Security

We make reasonable efforts to protect your information by using physical and electronic safeguards designed to improve the security of the information we maintain. However, as our Services are hosted electronically, we can make no guarantees as to the security or privacy of your information.

Children

We do not knowingly collect, maintain, or use personal information from children under 18 years of age, and no part of our Services is directed to children. If you learn that a child has provided us with personal information in violation of this Privacy Policy, then you may alert us at info@comicbooked.org.

International Transfers of Data

Our Services are hosted in the United States. If you choose to use our Services from the European Union or other regions of the world with laws governing data collection and use that may differ from U.S. law, then please note that you are transferring your personal information outside of those regions to the United States for storage and processing. By providing any information, including personal information, on or to our Services, you consent to such transfer, storage, and processing.

Update Your Information or Pose a Question

You can update your account and profile information, or delete your account, through your account settings. If you have questions about your privacy on the Services or this privacy policy, please contact us at info@comicbooked.org.

Changes to the Privacy Policy

We will post any adjustments to the Privacy Policy on this page, and the revised version will be effective when it is posted. If we materially change the ways in which we use or share personal information previously collected from you through our Services, we will notify you through our Services, by email, or other communication.
